Nearby firefighters skating to elevate resources for mental-wellness units
Two-day occasion will function firefighters from Ramara, Severn, Oro-Medonte, Tay Township, Rama and Orillia who look to surpass past year’s $5,000 fundraising total
All around 100 local firefighters are gearing up for the 2nd yearly Ishkode Cup hockey event this weekend at the Chippewas of Rama 1st Nation’s Mnjikaning Arena Sporting activities Ki (MASK).
The tournament, arranged by Rama Hearth and Rescue Services acting Capt. Doug Rideout and Orillia Fire Department firefighter Darryl Armstrong, builds “a lot of pleasure” among the local firefighters.
“Previous 12 months we experienced a whole bunch of laughs,” Armstrong said. “Every person actually acquired alongside and there was a camaraderie among all of us.”
Though firefighters share in their distinctive brotherhood during the weekend of hockey, Armstrong says the online games are competitive.
“It truly is quick hockey,” he claimed. “It’s awesome observing the pace of the men and their capacity to stick-manage.”
In final year’s championship sport, Orillia defeated Rama in overtime to earn the initial once-a-year Ishkode Cup.
“Orillia has been doing work on their skills collectively for about a month now,” Armstrong claimed. “We are wanting to protect the cup.”
